HONOR YESTERDAY
Raving Reviews!

Honor Yesterday: An Historical Exhibit, March 19-April 7 2010. From the founding of Champaign to the 150-year tribute, the Champaign 150th “A Walk Through Time” Historical Exhibit was a momentous launch to Champaign’s 150th Anniversary. The exhibit welcomed more than 3,500 visitors over the 20-day span, including 12 classrooms of elementary and middle school students who field-tripped to the exhibit through bus service provided through 150th sponsorships.
A 3,800-square foot space at “CityView at Illinois Terminal” was filled with six-foot display boards organized in 30-year eras and packed with historical facts on topics ranging from the emergence of the railroads, to the opening of the UI, to dancing fads of old. The exhibits included numerous rarely-seen artifacts and documents. An old-time candy station, period music and featured storytelling added to the aura of the walk down memory lane. CityView’s fourth-floor windows overlooking the bustle of the current City added an interesting contrast to the pictures of yesterday showcased inside.
Incredibly well-received by visitors, the historical exhibit has been requested to become a permanent fixture in our community. While space would not allow for permanency, the (39) grand historical boards have since travelled to the Champaign Public Library, Springer Cultural Center, Edison Middle School, and Downtown storefronts, with their ultimate destination to become the Champaign County Historical Museum. The historical exhibit has also been captured on video by CGTV and will be soon featured on Public Access TV.
